The Elstree and Boreham Wood Museum commemorates the life of Tom Ibbetson who was a long-term resident of Boreham Wood. He came to the area in 1935 with his family as a boy during a period of economic recession. The family gave great service to Elstree's Film-making industry and family members were involved in many of the trades that were essential to the success many films that were made here. Tom started his career as a page boy, and later was responsible for 'props', an important role in making sure that all the right components were in place for filming scenes. In his later years he generously gave much of his spare time to helping in the museum.
